what is the plan for this summer?

Club W Summer Edition

Our normal Club W season extends through April and we do Summer Edition in late June. CWSE involves the coordinated efforts of around 40 volunteers and requires weeks of recruiting, planning and preparation. That reality coupled with the restrictions we are bound to makes it impossible to run CWSE this summer.

ETM Junior Camp

Camp Arrah Wanna, where we hold Junior Camp has had to close its doors for the season. This means that we will be looking to 2021 for our next summer camp.

These are harsh and disappointing realities that we have quickly grown accustomed to during this current virus crisis. To deliver a message like this feels cold and uncaring but that is not my heart at all. I see in scripture time and again that blessings and affliction are both opportunities to set our eyes on the Lord and set our hearts to seek him. He is with us and wants us to wait on him. To respond to him in love and trust and to make the most of the opportunity that is before us.

Joseph recognized this in Genesis 50:20. He had spent years in slavery and captivity followed by years of being blessed and honored with wealth and authority. His murderous brothers who had sold him into slavery were sure that he would take matters into his own hands and take revenge on them for their wickedness. Instead Jospeh said to them, "Do not fear, for am I in the place of God? As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today." (ESV)

Long before Joseph had reached the good years, he was already demonstrating faith in his God who shows steadfast love. That belief kept his eyes elevated above his circumstances so that when the time of blessing eventually came, not just for him but for God's chosen people, he knew where the credit belonged.

I am sad to not be doing CWSE and ETM this summer but my response is that this is a season that comes with a unique opportunity to do the things well that he is calling us to right now. For me that means making videos, having lots of phone calls and zoom meetings, and praying for kids more than I ever have before. I'm praying for you and your family and looking forward to times of blessing when we are back together again.

Please feel free to email or call me with your questions and concerns about summer 2020. I value your input. My email is lee@gatewayweb.org. I am working mostly remotely so the best way to call me is via cell. Michelle can help you get my phone number if you don’t have it.

I am praying for you and for your kids!
