Seeking God

In the month of January we are focusing on "Seeking God". Check out the details below!

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.
 Be not wise in your own eyes;
fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.

Proverbs 3:5-7 ESV

Reading

Check out the details below for more ways you can seek God in the month of January by reading

  • Ever thought about reading through the Bible but found that your enthusiasm fades after a few days? How many of us have started January 1 with the intention of reading the entire Bible, only to see that desire begin to fizzle out almost immediately? Ecclesiastes reminds us that "if one falls, and there’s no one to help them up, they’re in trouble." This truth speaks not only to our challenges in life but also to our spiritual commitments. When it comes to seeking God and diving into His Word, we were never meant to do it alone.

Community is a core part of God’s design for our lives, and that includes our journey through Scripture. At Gateway, we encourage everyone to read the Bible in a way that reflects how God has created us—together.

If you're considering a Bible reading plan for 2025 or simply want to spend more time in God’s Word, we strongly recommend finding at least one other person to read with. Having a Bible partner to meet with weekly can help keep you accountable, deepen your understanding, and strengthen your connection to both God and each other.

Each day’s Bible reading is approximately 12 minutes long and each recap is about 8 minutes long. Everything you need to get started is below. You can READ, UNDERSTAND, and LOVE the Bible!

    • Get Your Life Back- John Eldredge. This books is full of practical and inspiring advice on how to reclaim your life from the busyness and chaos of life.
    • The Knowledge of the Holy- A.W. Tozer . This is a great devotional book for starting the New Year and seeking God in every aspect of your life.
    • The Valley Of Vision (This is a collection of Puritan prayers written by a variety of authors, such as Charles Spurgeon, John Bunyan, Isaac Watts, and many others. The language is very High Church (a lot of “thees” and “thous", but these prayers are rich in theology and a great way to bring freshness and variety to your prayer life).
    • Crazy Busy- Kevin DeYoung. This is a great book to read at the beginning of the New Year. It addresses the busyness problem head-on, and not with the typical arsenal of time-management tips, but with the biblical tools we need to get to the source of the issue and pull the problem out by the roots. And, as books go, it’s short!
    • Holy Hygge- Jamie Erikson. This book explores how to create a warm, welcoming, and peaceful environment where people can connect with each other and with God. It's a reminder that the home or gathering space can become a place where God's presence is felt and where people experience connection and grace.

Group Prayer Opportunities

  • Prayer For Youth and Schools- Monday's 9:00-10:00 am
  • Prayer Shawl Group- Monday's 2:00-4:00 pm

Prayer

At Gateway, we believe that prayer is essential in seeking God's guidance and direction for our lives.

  • As part of our commitment to prayer, we send out an almost weekly Prayer Update that includes requests from our ministry leaders and missionaries. This update provides an opportunity to join in prayer for upcoming events, celebrate the ways God has answered prayers, and lift up specific needs for our leaders and missionaries.

Our pastors and leaders are dedicated to seeking the Lord's guidance each day, and they deeply value your prayers for them as they serve.

To receive the Prayer Update, simply contact the church office by phone or email. You can also create a Realm account, which will not only give you access to the Prayer Update but also allow you to join the Prayer Update group, view church events, register for activities, and manage your volunteer opportunities.

  • In addition to the Prayer Update, Gateway offers the PrayerLine, where you can find occasional prayer requests from our church family and Oikos. This is a wonderful way to support one another in prayer and witness how God is moving in the lives of those in our congregation.

To join the PrayerLine email group, please contact the church office.

Being Together

Join us after the 11:00 am service on Sunday, January 26th for our Annual Celebration and Potluck.

We will enjoy a lunch together and then head into the Main Auditorium for a celebration and update on the past year of ministry at Gateway. There will be hard copies of the Annual Report available for your to pick up so you can read highlights from each ministry.

We will also vote in new Deacons, new members, and on the proposed budget for 2025. We hope to see you there! Bring a main dish and side or dessert to share.
